Drinking Water, Health and Sanitation

Sanitation, Health and Hygiene for All

Sanitation is one of the growing issues in the world. Four of every ten people in the world do not have access to even a simple pit latrine; and nearly two in ten have no source of safe drinking water. Water supply and sanitation services, as well as water as a resource, are critical to sustainable development—from environmental protection and food security to increased tourism and investment, from the empowerment of women and the education of girls to reduction in productivity losses due to morbidity and malnutrition. The Millennium Development Goal aims to halve the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015.

BNA in the financial support from SNV has been implementing a pilot project on Sanitation in three VDCs of Surkhet district namely Lekhpharsa, Gumi and Chhinchhu for last two years. The piloting is very successful regarding to the installation of the toilets in no subsidy model. The program is a model program and many lessons has been learned from the project. The project activities are mainly focused on the district level coordination, VDC level intensive mobilization and facilitation with different triggering activities and awareness raising activities.
