A poor janajati Community of Lekhparajul-8 Dungikhola of Surkhet district use to face various problems due to direct consumption of water from unprotected source. People of this community were unable to collect enough water for their daily household needs purpose.
As per the active mobilization of PAHAL staffs the community people were informed that PAHAL program provides multiple uses system of water supply within the collaboration of community after which Bansghari Multiple uses System of Water user group was formed. In the initiation of PAHAL and user group a multiple uses system of water (MUS) was constructed in the same site.
After construction Bansghari MUS in Lekhparajul-8 vegetable production in kitchen garden and commercial as well has been done in high ratio and safe drinking water is available in their door head. Beside hygiene people are much more motivated as per the availability of the water in daily basis. There are total 14 house holds which are directly benefitted by this scheme among which 30 are female and 26 are male. They have also formed repair and maintenance fund for the same with an amount of 50 rupees per month.
PAHAL had also provided training to user group on participatory planning process orientation, Community awareness meeting on storage and proper management, Awareness dialogue between water user group and caretaker, Capacity building training on effective water management to caretaker and Social audit orientation to group.
Typically 4-5 families shared a tap and off take which also shows the harmony of the community with dalits and other caste people. As well as providing vital water supplies, this drastically reduces the time and drudgery required to collect water. As the MUS irrigates 123 Ropanee land of the community people are now a day's much more focused on income generation through commercial vegetable farming within the initiation of PAHAL staffs.
Asked about their future plan, User committee secretary Nira pun says that they want to cultivate off seasonal vegetable & plan to increase their farmland. They also says that people in their community didn’t know about micro-irrigational technology and functional multiple system of water in the past but now everyone is know about them and apply their farmland and though the water had reached to their door head they are now much more motivated towards hygiene and sanitation because access towards water is much more easy then the past. They feel very grateful towards PAHAL program and says that PAHAL program has given an access towards new technology and concept to increase the health and economic status of poor people to solve water scarcity problem.
